FOTF 'selected' competitions
Hand on my heart I can say I’m well and truly addicted to FOTF and have been in many competitions in my time. I know the process off by heart and love it with all of my heart.
As we know most of the competition happens off the track. The joy is in creating the most wonderful outfit to express who you are, the day, the season and your style. This process can be as lengthy or as quick as you like. For some people FOTF is a type of therapy where its used to calm and bring joy to the participant, for others, its light hearted fun with friends with a thrown together outfit that just works, whatever FOTF is to you I’m sure if you are reading this you love the competition.
Recently, I attended two events where the fun and joy of FOTF was STOLEN from me, yes ladies STOLEN!!!! I’m talking about competitions where participants are ‘selected’ usually by a team of people who have never participated or ran a FOTF competition in their lives. SO DISAPPOINTING.
The first so called FOTF competition had a lot of media hype, there were well know stylists, big brands, great boutiques and an amazing location and hospitality. I could not wait I picked my favourite dress of the season, millinery by a great local milliner, added new accessories, read all their advertising about the event but on the day OMG I was not allowed to enter because the places had been allocated. Thats right our ‘everyone can enter’ competition it was not and the ‘FOTF’ was well not FOTF but the most random pedestrian runway show i’ve ever seen in my life and only one finalist had ‘millinery’. OMG I needed therapy that day people let me tell you. So disappointing. I mean its ok its not like I live for this or anything.
Next event. Same situation. All of the hype, but once again places were allocated to people so not everyone got to enter, including me. Once again outfit planned to a tee, showcasing local millinery and fashion and NADA. I could not believe it and once again only two finalists in millinery. SO DISAPPOINTING.
Why is this happening to our sport? Is it that event management want the hype, financial benefits and the gorgeous women of FOTF to attend but simply dont know how to run the day or is it that event management want the hype, financial benefits and the gorgeous women of FOTF but simply don’t understand the sport itself and want to control the outcome? Either way both events have certainly left a bad taste in my mouth.
