Diary of a FOTF junkie - February/March 2018
Friday 16 February 2018
Damn you pinterest I had my outfit planned and you've come in and given me tulle dress dreams. CRAP. I go to bed dreaming of tulle dresses, different designs, colours, combinations and how I could possibly combine them with what I'm already going to wear. Maybe add a tulle sleeve? or tulle under the ruffled hem for a more dramatic look? I've got two new pieces of millinery, one that I wore last week to Pinjarra and one that I'm yet to wear and damn it I'm wearing that bad boy!!!
Ok and even if I do book in to meet that dressmaker my friend told me about, the one just down the road that is so convenient... its just to get a petticoat made, and the tulle alts, right? I make the appointment firm in my nothing new stance.
Saturday 17 February 2018
I told some friends about how fun Pinjarra was now that York and Bunbury are coming up I'm so excited. But really I'm in emotional limbo as I have 2 outfits I've planned and while York's outfit has been slowly coming together since November 2017 (it was unfortunately put on hold as I ate too many ferrero rochers over Christmas and couldn't do the skirt up) but, Bunbury, oh Bunbury, I think I should get something fresh for you. NOOOOOO!! I need to be good and wear what I have, plus, I'm really looking forward to Northam in October and everyone goes all out for that event so I'll save my tulle dreams until then.
............ I can't sleep I want to wear the tulle dress now.
Monday 19 February 2018
8.30 am isn't too early to call your favourite Milliner for a chat is it? just a sneaky little scheduling of a emergency meeting.... even though she is currently working on another piece for me for York, and I have millinery that I've never worn, and I promised myself that I wouldn't get anything new made until I've worn everything I already have......
I spend the next two nights unable to fall asleep because I'm finalizing my new outfit ....
Wednesday 21 February 2018
I'm on my way to my dress makers and say to myself I'll only get the dress made if it costs under this XXX amount. I meet the dress maker, she is a doll. I discuss my design concept and it comes in smack on budget. LET'S DO THIS. I head straight to fabulous fabrics and select the most divine fabric I could find ... nailing it.
I head to my milliners for our emergency meeting later that day, we discuss design concepts but we are both dancing around the truth - just give me that golden design I love Holly, in these colours and with that thing you do at the back that I've never seen on any other millinery ...... ERMIGOD I'm soooo excited and on top of that she is selling Cadbury creme eggs to raise money for her Daughters school so I buy three ... it's all for the kids, yep I eat them all within the next 5 hours... and Holly texts to say she can get the leather that I love YUUUUHHHHH
Saturday 24 February 2018
We are a month out from Bunbury Cup (21 March 2018) and things haven't gone to plan. My new years resolutions that I'd wear my outfits and millinery more than once a race season has gone out the window, we are still in February and I've already failed. My dress maker sends me pictures of different navy tulle to compliment the fabric I've chosen for the bodice and I'm in heaven.
Wednesday 28th of February 2018
I'm concentrating on York races that are happening this Monday, please fit me red skirt and do I wear my Only One Ashley black top or white? hmmm I think the black will make the gingham pop more plus I'm so unco I'll no doubt drop my olives or cheese on it so its probably the more practical option.
My milliner messages me to let me know my millinery is ready and delightful I'M SO EXCITED!!! She has also invoiced me for my next hat - ok so my food shopping list is now baked beans and 2 minute noodles!!!!
I'm going to have a pedi today so my tootsies are in tip top shape for the big day on Monday.
Yesterday I also bought my shoes for the Autumn carnival here at Perth's Ascot racecourse. Can't wait eeeep.
Got to stop spending money, must sell some race day outfits on Millinery and Racewear Australia Facebook page to get some molla back pronto!!!!
Tuesday 6th March
York was a gorgeous day out but super hot too! I was glad we booked a tent because wow even though its technically the first week of Autumn it was over 35 degrees and I felt way to hot for comfort! But it was lovely to get out to country WA. I came second to the always stunning Leah. I now have so many amazing hair products from Heritage Hair in York that I wont need to buy any for years! I called Lisa the Owner to thank her for her generosity.
8th March 2018
My dress maker sends me a pic of my dress HOLY BABY LAMB I"M IN LOVE, I quickly pop in to try it on. I love it but because I'm fun sized (*cough* really short) I feel like its breaking up my already challenged silhouette so I ask her to raise the tulle to the hip bone.
Then I call in the big guns, I flick the picture to BDA's Brand Ambassador Sally Martin who confirms we need to bring that tulle up baby!!! And then Mum comes in and we talk tailoring, so a few more alts need to happen before this bad boy is ready to come out at Bunbury.
Monday 12 March 2018
Mum and I head to Quyens place to have a fitting. I stand there with my arms out as Mum and Quyen talk about tweaking this and that. Then Quyen says she is so booked out it wont be finished until the Monday night before Bunbury on the Weds - eeek that is cutting it close but hey it needs to be just right.
Thursday the 15 March 2018
Holly (Holly Barker Millinery) tells me the boater is almost finished, the navy leather is so soft and the tulle trim on the ribbons are to die for. We make a appointment for Saturday so I can go in, try her on and hopefully bring her home.
Monday 19 March
I go to Quyens but the dress needs more work it wont be ready until tomorrow. I try not to freak out and remain calm but inside I'm thinking FUCK I have everything picked I can't have a plot twist. A deep breath later and I know its going to be ok, Quyen is amazing - she's got this.
When I get home I play with accessories. Do I wear my classic white and gold small clutch or indulge in BDA's latest arrival the Blazing Beauty
Tuesday 20 March - 1 DAY UNTIL BUNBURY LADIES DAY!!!
I go to Holly's and pick up my hat - I'm in love. Its probably the prettiest, classiest, highest quality millinery I've ever seen in my life, I cannot wait to wear her.
I go to Quyens and pick up my dress - OMG so pretty and fun to wear - the twirl factor is seriously high on this one.
Later that night when I get home at 6.30 I do my first dress rehearsal - will the vision in my head come to life? I think so. I dress, add all my accessories and step out. My hubby loves it and my 3 year old tells me I look so pretty - I feel pretty good too.
Wed 21 March
Woohoo the day is finally here. My 1.5 year old wakes me up at 5.15am! Thankfully their Nonna is picking both girls up at 7am just before Pearlin Bracewell comes over to do my hair and makeup. The morning fly's by. Soon I'm on my way down to Bunbury with some girlfriends for a most anticipated girls day. But really the preparation and day out with girlfriends is most of the fun, the thrill of designing and pulling together an outfit is so fulfilling and those carefree days where we all look and feel great are not to be underrated.
